“An historic landmark in the heart of Chianti, renown for the rich heritage of its territory``
Luiano is located on a hill extending across 40 hectares of land, 20 of which are cultivated with vines. Luiano’s wine production dates back to several centuries ago, most likely due its unique micro-climatic conditions. It’s vineyards are all exposed towards the south and planted on a very versatile soil with excellent production potential and consisting of the river pill Alberese stone, commonly found in the San Casciano area in mid-altitudes, approximately 300 m.a.s.l. In lower altitudes the soil is rich of clay and minerals, while at the top of Luiano’s hill – roughly 375 m.a.s.l. – is characterised by limestones and sand enriching the clays. In the eastern part of the property there is also a small part of Galestro soil.
Wine-Making
Our Philosophy
Sensible wines, since the moment of production to the enjoyment of it in a glass wines must represent positive feelings for all.
We work to obtain a balanced ripeness of the fruit that we grow in our land that will represent in the different expressions of our wines a unique link with the natural elements of our place in the world.
Vine Cultivation
We happily follow the principles of responsible farming aiming to the long term well-being for the plants, the health of the land and the pleasantness of the fruit.
Our vines are all trained in spurred cord and processed in all their phases of the life-cycle according to respect the most balanced yield in accordance to the health of the plant and the best ripeness of grapes.
Cellaring
Our Cellars are located in the original buildings of the farm and including the old basement of the Ancient Villa of Luiano.
Our fermentation cellars holds a capacity of about 2000 Hectolitres distributed in several old-fashioned concrete tanks built in the late 50s by our Grandfather Alberto that have been recently equipped with refrigerators to pursue the modern needs of wine-making.
Ageing is performed in the old stone-walled cellars located under the basement of the main building where different type of wooden containers are used to storage the refining wines in the most compliant way necessary for the specificity of each vintage.
Final storage, bottling and bottle storage are performed in in our dedicated rooms with climate control.
